Back in the 90s in LA, there were a few dj/artist collectives that would organize the underground-y electronic music shows- Darkmatter Soundsystem (the only one that now, in 2020, still organizes shows) handled most of all the breakcore shows, Mashup Soundsystem also did breakcore shows, ELM did idm shows, usually on the harder/darker side, but sometimes not, and would regularly bring some combination of Otto v Schirach / Phoenecia / Richard Devine to town (Pet Shop show in Silver Lake is legendary!), and also Infinite Complexity aka iComplex did probably the widest variety of musics, idm and industrial and techno and dubstep and drum and bass and other random stuff.

And this is not to mention LA’s long-running industrial club Das Bunker, still going strong, but quite frankly is a whole lot less underground than those others I mentioned. Although Franck and company still will have some good live acts play their hallowed halls every now and then.

This Richard Devine show was actually not a proper concert; it was a private party for about 15 or 20 people. I don’t remember why Richard was in town, or if he played some other show that weekend. Honestly, I don’t even know how I was invited to this one, except that iComplex head honcho Whoman is a super nice guy who thought I should be there I guess.
