Here’s a bit of video of Baseck tearin’ it up at Ceres, LA, 1 Dec 2012.

(This event wasn’t officially called Ceres, but it was held at a nondescript loft/warehouse on Ceres Street in Los Angeles. But calling it ‘Live at Ceres’ sounds a whole lot better than ‘Live at a nondescript loft/warehouse south of downtown Los Angeles’, so I’m going with that.)

(audio) couple of Baseck-related recordings, March 2012, LA

First is a bit of audio from the collab tag-team set between Baseck and Darkmatter luminary Diskore. They were part of the festivities in North Hollywood, Ca at an event which included the return of Low Res mainstay Bombardier and dubstep heavyweight Broken Note. As you might expect in their set, Diskore provided the monstrous beats while Baseck contributed a heavy dose of scratching, various turntablism skills and an occasional gameboy outburst.

Baseck vs Diskore, 16 March 2012, live at Blue Moon Nights, North Hollywood, Ca.

Next up is audio from a collaborative effort between Baseck and LA’s techno monster Derek Michael. As both of their first names are Derek/Derrick, they’ve adopted the designation [D]Squared for their collab sets. Similar in function to the Diskore audio, Baseck provides scratching and other audio accents here, while Derek Michael supplies the musical backbone of charging techno beats, perhaps a notch or two more aggressive than most, comparable to Surgeon or Planetary Assault Systems.

[D]Squared, 29 March 2012, live at Medusa Lounge, Los Angeles.

(audio) Baseck x2 in LA, July/Aug 2011

OG Darkmatter scratchmaster Baseck generally likes to abuse his gameboys and turntables equally in live performance. But in this clip here, his gameboys dominate the mix as they spew out large doses of pounding noisy 8-bit bliss.

Baseck live at Darkmatter’s 10th anniversary show, Los Angeles, 9 July 2011.

Baseck celebrated his becoming one year closer to being a grumpy old man by organizing a show in some warehouse in an industrial section of LA on the border between Chinatown and Alhambra. Of course, he whipped out the gameboys and played a set himself, and here’s a taste.

Baseck live in Los Angeles, 13 August 2011.

(audio) Wet Mango live in LA, 9 July 2011

Like Baseck, Wet Mango’s audio weapons of choice are gameboys modded for music programming and output. But make no mistake- these things aren’t toys, at least in capable hands. She continues to defy the boundaries of gameboy composition. Every song she plays is more devastating than the last. Monstrous.
